Ship and Operator Comparisons

Head-to-head comparisons are where expedition cruise decisions actually get made.

Quark or Lindblad? One flagship ship or another? A traditional Drake Passage crossing or a fly-cruise operator?

The first Atlas comparisons publish this fall. Each one will use the same 12-point framework, covering factors such as:

  • Landings and off-ship activities
  • Ship size and the IAATO 100-person landing limit
  • Cabin size and layout
  • Included activities and equipment
  • Expedition staff and guest ratios
  • Dining and onboard amenities
  • Itinerary structure
  • Real-world pricing and overall value

Coming First

The first comparisons will include:

  • Quark Expeditions vs. Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic
  • Antarctica fly-cruise operators compared
  • Individual expedition ships compared head-to-head

More comparisons will follow in January 2027, informed by my December voyage aboard National Geographic’s Antarctica Direct: Sail and Fly the Drake itinerary.
