The Honest Status of This Page
The Galápagos is the next destination I am building out after Antarctica and, tentatively, the next one I will sail.
My wife and I are planning our own Galápagos trip because that is how this site works: research first, firsthand experience second, and detailed guides third.
Antarctica is getting that treatment now. I board National Geographic’s Antarctica Direct itinerary in December 2026, and the Galápagos follows.
The complete Galápagos section will include yacht and small-ship comparisons, including what changes when you choose a 16-passenger yacht instead of a 100-passenger expedition ship. It will also cover eastern and western itinerary loops, month-by-month wildlife timing, and realistic cost breakdowns that include the mainland Ecuador stay many travelers add to their trip.
What I Can Already Tell You
The Galápagos is a year-round destination, which makes it one of the easier expedition trips to schedule. The hardest decision is often choosing the right vessel.
Ships operating in the Galápagos are limited to no more than 100 passengers. The fleet ranges from intimate yachts carrying 16 to 48 guests to larger expedition ships operated by companies such as Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic, Silversea, and other established cruise lines.
Smaller vessels offer a more intimate atmosphere and fewer guests sharing each experience. Larger ships tend to provide greater stability, more onboard amenities, and a wider range of facilities and experts.
Neither option is automatically better. The right choice depends on how much you value intimacy, comfort, amenities, stability, and the overall pace of the trip.
